With India currently leading the World Test Championship (WTC) standings and an upcoming series against Australia later this year, Sharma warned that the team must not treat the Bangladesh Tests as a mere warm-up. He underscored the importance of every game, especially in the context of the open competition for the WTC table.
Bangladesh arrives with confidence after a historic 2-0 Test series sweep over Pakistan, making them a formidable opponent. Sharma stated that India is well-prepared and ready to begin the season on a high, dismissing any notion of relaxing after their recent successes, including winning the T20 World Cup earlier this year. The 37-year-old captain noted that cricketers have a limited time to make their mark, and his team remains fully focused on winning every match.
Following the Bangladesh series, India will host New Zealand for three Tests before embarking on a tour to Australia, the reigning World Test champions. Sharma acknowledged the high spirits of the Bangladesh team but reiterated India’s mission to win, stating, “Let them have fun. We need to win the match, and that’s what we are here for.”
