A Swedish prosecutor has confirmed the launch of a rape investigation but refrained from naming any suspect, following reports linking Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe to the case. The media, including Swedish outlets Aftonbladet, Expressen, and public broadcaster SVT, reported that Mbappe was under investigation following a recent visit to Stockholm.
The Prosecution Authority stated that a criminal report had been filed regarding an alleged incident at a hotel on October 10, though they provided no specific details on the suspect. Expressen, citing anonymous sources, identified Mbappe as being “reasonably suspected” of sexual assault, a lower level of suspicion under Swedish law.
The French international’s entourage denied knowledge of any legal complaints against him, dismissing the reports as slanderous. The allegations surfaced after Mbappe’s trip to Stockholm with friends, during which they dined and visited a nightclub before leaving the following day. Aftonbladet reported that the complaint was filed by the alleged victim, who sought medical attention following the incident.
Adding to the tension, Mbappe claimed on social media that the reports were linked to his ongoing dispute with Paris Saint-Germain over unpaid wages, dismissing them as “fake news.” Legal proceedings regarding the wage dispute, where Mbappe claims he is owed €55 million, are ongoing. His legal team has vowed to take all necessary actions to defend his reputation amidst the growing controversy.
