A man-eating tiger that terrorized the Pancharakolli region was discovered dead behind a house on Monday morning. The carcass, showing visible injuries, was located by a 30-member special team led by Dr. Arun Zachariah. This team was part of an intensive operation initiated to eliminate the tiger, which had been causing panic in the area. The tiger’s body was later moved to the base camp for further examination.
To ensure public safety, six additional teams were deployed to secure the forest boundaries and track the predator. Authorities imposed a curfew in Pancharakolli, Mele Chirakkara, and Pilakkavu starting at 6 am on Monday, restricting movement in the affected areas.
The tiger had attacked a member of the Rapid Response Team (RRT) named Jayasurya on Sunday morning. The attack occurred while Jayasurya was searching for the tiger. Although he sustained injuries to his arm, he managed to defend himself with a shield. Despite being fired upon, the tiger escaped at that time.
The predator had previously claimed the life of a woman named Radha on January 24. While crossing a forest footpath, she was attacked from behind, dragged into the forest, and partially devoured by the tiger. This tragic incident prompted the intensified efforts to locate and neutralize the threat.
