
CHICAGO:Senior IAS officer and acclaimed author Dr Raju Narayana Swamy has launched his 37th book, Intellectual Property Rights: Musings of an Amateur Enthusiast, at a ceremony held in Chicago. The book was formally released by Indian Consul General Somnath Ghosh. Offering deep insights into the rapidly evolving legal landscape, the publication is already garnering widespread attention from legal experts, tech enthusiasts, and academics globally.
Dr. Swamy’s latest work bridges the gap between emerging technology and legal frameworks. The book offers a comprehensive exploration of crucial contemporary issues in the field of intellectual property rights (IPR), including the complex intersection of blockchain and artificial intelligence with intellectual property, patent misuse, global patentability standards, performers’ rights, and utility models. It also features a meticulous examination of important judicial rulings from multiple jurisdictions that have shaped the evolution of modern intellectual property law. The publication further solidifies Dr. Swamy’s reputation as a leading legal mind, following his receipt of the prestigious 2021 Leonardo da Vinci Fellowship from George Mason University for his contributions to intellectual property law.
Dr. Raju Narayana Swamy’s career represents a rare blend of administrative excellence, academic brilliance, and literary distinction. An alumnus of IIT Madras with a degree in Computer Science and Engineering, he secured the All India Rank 1 in the 1991 Indian Administrative Service examination. His extensive legal scholarship includes a PhD in Law from Gujarat National Law University, a postgraduate diploma from the National Law School in Bengaluru, and an LLM with a gold medal from NLU Delhi. Beyond his legal and technical expertise, Dr. Swamy is a celebrated author whose diverse literary portfolio includes the travelogue “In the Valley Where the Peace Mantra Resonates,” which received the Sahitya Akademi Award, and “Neelakurinji: A Spring of a Dozen Years,” which won the Kerala State Award for Children’s Literature.
In addition to his literary and academic feats, Dr. Swamy is highly regarded for his unyielding crusade against corruption, for which he was honored with the Satyendra K. Dubey Memorial Award by IIT Kanpur. His administrative capability is equally mirrored in his election duties, having recently attracted attention for serving as a Central Observer for the Election Commission of India on a record-breaking 38 occasions, which included a notable stint as an international election observer during Zimbabwe’s 2018 general elections.
