Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirmed on Monday that Israel will continue its military actions against Hezbollah, regardless of any ceasefire agreement in Lebanon. Netanyahu emphasized that Israel’s security remains the top priority, stressing the necessity of ongoing operations to prevent Hezbollah from regrouping or strengthening its forces.
Speaking about the situation, Netanyahu stated, “Even after a ceasefire, we will ensure our security in the north through systematic operations against Hezbollah’s attacks.” He also cast doubt on Hezbollah’s commitment to any ceasefire, asserting, “There is no evidence to suggest that Hezbollah will respect any agreement reached.”
The current conflict erupted when Hezbollah launched attacks into northern Israel, leading to a series of retaliatory strikes. Tensions escalated into full-scale conflict by late September, following coordinated actions between Hezbollah and its Palestinian ally, Hamas. Netanyahu firmly stated, “We will not allow Hezbollah to revert to the strength it held on October 6, 2023, prior to the Hamas attack on southern Israel.”
Meanwhile, Lebanon’s government has largely agreed to a U.S.-proposed truce aimed at ending the ongoing hostilities. Lebanese officials are finalizing their response to Washington, with hopes of reaching a resolution to halt the devastating conflict. However, Israel’s stance highlights its intent to maintain military vigilance, ensuring that any ceasefire does not compromise its security.
