New York: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the UN’s Summit of the Future in New York, reaffirming India’s commitment to an early resolution of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This marks the third meeting between the two leaders in recent months, following discussions in Kyiv in August and during the G7 summit in Italy in June.
Modi expressed India’s steadfast support for peace and stability in the region, emphasizing the importance of diplomacy and dialogue. He reiterated India’s willingness to contribute toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Modi noted India’s focus on strengthening bilateral ties with Ukraine and implementing the outcomes of his recent visit to Kyiv.
Zelenskyy acknowledged India’s efforts and appreciated Modi’s attention to the situation, particularly in advancing international dialogue through platforms like the UN and G20. He also thanked India for supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The leaders discussed the positive momentum in bilateral relations, with Modi underlining India’s openness to playing a constructive role in peace efforts. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri revealed that the meeting was requested by Ukraine and highlighted the productive nature of the talks, emphasizing India’s clear stance on promoting peace through dialogue and cooperation.
