Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India soon, following an official invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This confirmation was given by Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who stated that preparations for Putin’s visit are already underway. Speaking to TASS, a Russian state-run news agency, Lavrov emphasized that the meeting between Modi and Putin is being arranged as part of ongoing diplomatic engagements. He also pointed out that PM Modi had chosen Russia as his first foreign visit after securing re-election last year, reinforcing the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations.
PM Modi visited Russia in July 2024, marking his first trip to the country in nearly five years. His previous visit was in 2019 to Vladivostok, where he attended an economic conclave. Over the years, Putin and Modi have maintained frequent contact, engaging in regular phone discussions every few months and meeting in person on the sidelines of international summits. Their ongoing dialogue highlights the robust nature of India-Russia relations, which have remained steadfast despite geopolitical shifts.
Lavrov also reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with India, calling it a “privileged strategic partnership.” He noted that Russia shares a high level of trust with both India and China and aims to enhance cooperation across various sectors, including defense, trade, and energy. Putin’s upcoming visit is expected to further bolster economic collaboration and diplomatic coordination between the two nations, reinforcing their long-standing alliance in global affairs.
