Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold an outdoor rally in North Carolina this Wednesday, marking his first open-air event since narrowly surviving an assassination attempt at a similar rally last month. The rally is set to occur in the afternoon at an aviation museum in Asheboro, where security has been significantly heightened. This includes the installation of bulletproof glass around Trump’s podium, as reported by U.S. media outlets.
The Secret Service had previously advised Trump to avoid outdoor events following an attack during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a gunman fired at him from a rooftop. The incident resulted in Trump’s injury and one fatality among the attendees. Despite the risks, Trump has continued to hold indoor rallies and recently expressed his determination to resume outdoor events. During a speech in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on July 31, Trump declared, “we’re not giving up the outdoor rallies.”
Trump announced on social media that he will continue to hold open-air events, noting that the Secret Service has agreed to significantly enhance security measures. Although the Secret Service typically does not disclose specific security details, reports suggest that Trump will speak from behind a transparent protective barrier similar to those used in presidential limousines.
The Asheboro rally coincides with the third day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where Kamala Harris is expected to be formally nominated as the Democratic candidate for president. Security at the convention is notably stringent.
Trump’s running mate, Senator J.D. Vance, will also join him at the Asheboro rally, which will be held outdoors with bleachers set up for thousands of attendees. North Carolina, being a crucial swing state, is expected to play a pivotal role in the upcoming November 5 election.
