Washington/New Delhi: Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, US President Donald Trump has called for calm and offered to mediate if needed. Speaking at the White House, Trump said he is concerned about the escalating conflict and is willing to assist in bringing it to a peaceful resolution. “It’s very scary. I know both countries well and have a good relationship with their leaders. If I can help in any way, I’ll be there,” Trump stated, adding that he hopes the conflict will end soon. He earlier referred to the situation as “a shame.”
Meanwhile, India remains on high alert as border tensions escalate following the military strike codenamed Operation Sindoor, which took place between 1:05 AM and 1:30 AM. The Indian Armed Forces launched a precise assault on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied territories, including areas like Bhawalpur, Muridke, and Muzaffarabad. Reports suggest 32 were killed, including relatives of Jaish-e-Mohammed founder Masood Azhar, though Pakistan’s military confirmed eight fatalities.
In response to the Indian operation, Pakistan launched retaliatory shelling, leading to the death of an Indian soldier and the evacuation of residents from sensitive areas such as Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla, and Kupwara. India has since closed 10 airports near the border, anticipating further air strikes. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif of Pakistan condemned India’s action, calling it a “declaration of war.”
The region remains under strict surveillance, with educational institutions shut and civilian movement restricted in Kashmir. The Indian military hinted at a potential second phase of Operation Sindoor if provocations persist.
