Apple AirTag 2: Next-Gen Tracker Set to Launch in 2025 with Enhanced Features

Upgraded Ultra Wideband Chip, Improved Precision, and Vision Pro Integration Expected

Apple is gearing up to unveil its second-generation AirTag, nearly four years after the original tracker revolutionized location tracking in 2021. As per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the much-anticipated AirTag 2 is slated for release in mid-2025. The upgraded device is expected to include significant enhancements, focusing on better location accuracy and advanced features.

One of the most notable upgrades is the inclusion of the second-generation Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip, which debuted in the iPhone 15 series. This advanced chip will provide improved tracking capabilities and enable the Precision Finding feature to function over greater distances. Gurman also revealed that the AirTag 2 has successfully progressed through manufacturing tests, signaling that Apple is preparing for its launch.

Additional reports from MacRumors indicate that Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo confirmed delays in mass production, initially scheduled for late 2024, pushing the release to 2025. While the exact reasons for the delay remain unclear, the new AirTag is expected to maintain a design similar to its predecessor but incorporate notable anti-stalking measures, such as a more secure built-in speaker.

Another exciting possibility is the integration of AirTag 2 with Apple’s Vision Pro headset, enhancing the seamless ecosystem Apple users enjoy. With better range, enhanced security features, and advanced tracking, the AirTag 2 is poised to elevate Apple’s reputation in the smart tracking device market.
