Abu Dhabi: A Malayali-owned firm based in the UAE has embarked on an ambitious venture to explore how the human body reacts in microgravity, contributing to cutting-edge space research. The partnership was officially announced during a signing ceremony at the Burjeel Institute for Global Health in New York, with Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Founder and Chairman of Burjeel Holdings, and Mr. John Sunil, CEO of Burjeel Holdings, in attendance. The collaboration is a key step in expanding scientific knowledge in space, focusing on advancing healthcare technologies.
Axiom Space, a company with a mission to extend human presence in Low Earth Orbit, is partnering with Burjeel Holdings to launch a suite of medical capabilities to space. These technologies, already in use at Burjeel Medical City and hospitals globally, will be employed in research designed to study the effects of microgravity on human biology. The goal is to assess how microgravity impacts biomarkers, the quality of drug substances, and the effectiveness of remote healthcare services. Axiom Space astronauts will operate these technologies during training and throughout Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4), scheduled for launch next spring.
Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil emphasized that this partnership not only pushes the boundaries of medical research in space but also supports the UAE’s ambitious space exploration goals.
