Child Abduction Case: Accused Planned Honey Trap and Frauds

The accused in the child abduction case, Padma Kumar and his family, were not only involved in the kidnapping but also had plans for fraudulent activities, including setting up a honey trap. Information obtained from notes written by Padma Kumar’s wife, Anitha Kumari, and daughter, Anupama, revealed that the family had devised a plan to target senior citizens living alone. They aimed to grab their gold by creating fake stories of child sexual exploitation and demanding money for settlement.

The family had traveled to various locations to identify potential targets, collecting details of their jewelry. The plan involved exploiting incidents of child abuse, threatening the victims, and extorting money. The accused had meticulously planned routes to and from each location and collected information about children and homes for potential kidnappings.

On the day of the child’s abduction, the accused roamed around various places before returning home around 7 pm. They were aware of the child’s abduction making headlines while watching TV. Their intention was to return the child after the incident gained significant attention.

The crime branch team took the accused to a farm in Polachira, where evidence related to the case was collected. This included parts of the child’s notebook found near a dog shed, as well as burnt remains of her school bag and instrument box. Anitha Kumari provided details of the events that transpired on the day of the incident during the evidence collection process, which lasted over one and a half hours. The collected materials were handed over for scientific testing, including fingerprint analysis.
