Delay in Commencing Construction of New Mosque in Ayodhya

Despite the Uttar Pradesh government’s allocation of five acres of land for the construction of a new mosque in Dhannipur, located 25 km away from the Babri Masjid site, there has been a delay in commencing the construction work. The Supreme Court had directed the state government to provide the land, but the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation, responsible for the project, cites insufficient funds as a major obstacle to initiating construction.

As of now, the only visible step taken by the foundation is the establishment of an office in Lucknow related to the construction project. The vision for the new mosque involves adopting a modern architectural style, a departure from the Persian architecture of the Mughals. Reports suggest that there are ambitious plans to make it even more aesthetically stunning than the iconic Taj Mahal.

In addition to the mosque, the project envisions the establishment of a hospital providing entirely free treatment, a library, a history museum, and a community kitchen offering complimentary meals. The estimated cost for these ambitious plans is around Rs 330 crores. The delay raises concerns about the timeline for the completion of this significant project and the hurdles posed by financial constraints.
