Calicut Airport RESA Expansion Progresses with Tender Invitation Ahead of Land Acquisition Completion

The Calicut International Airport’s Runway and Safety Area (RESA) expansion plans are moving forward as the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has initiated preliminary actions. Instead of waiting for land acquisition to complete, AAI has opened tenders for construction tasks.

Simultaneously, the government is expediting land acquisition efforts. Land document verification began recently, with landowners from Pallikkal and Nediyiruppu villages submitting their documents. Once validated and cleared of legal or technical obstacles, landowners will receive compensation directly in their bank accounts. House owners will be given an advance rehabilitation payment of Rs 10 lakh, and the rest will be transferred after land evacuation. Grievance redressal facilities for property owners have been established.

The state government had previously committed to providing land for airport development by September 15.

Airport Development Plans:

  • Expanding RESA by 240 metres on both runway ends.
  • Implementing drainage systems and other developmental projects.

Tenders for the Rs 402.18 crore project will be decided in the upcoming months. The selected company must commence work within 90 days. Initial activities won’t be hindered by land acquisition delays. A 19-month timeframe has been allocated for RESA expansion. Local concerns are being addressed through discussions.

The state has issued the final notification for acquiring 14.5 acres of land needed for the Karipur airport’s RESA construction. A meeting with MLAs and representatives is scheduled to discuss project-related matters with airport authorities.
