Intense Campaigning Gears Up in Puthuppally Constituency Ahead of By-Poll

In the run-up to the upcoming by-poll in the Puthuppally assembly constituency, both the ruling CPI (M) and the opposition Congress have intensified their campaigning efforts. Prominent leaders, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and senior Congress figure A K Antony, have embarked on extensive campaign tours within the constituency, vying for voter support.

Chief Minister Vijayan, during his election rallies in various villages of the constituency, highlighted the achievements of the Left government over the past seven years while appealing for backing and votes for LDF candidate Jaick C Thomas. He criticized the Congress, alleging that the opposition party could not accept the development initiatives undertaken by the CPI(M) government.

A K Antony, making his first campaign appearance in the constituency to advocate for UDF candidate Chandy Oommen, asserted that the electorate would respond resolutely to the Left party. He accused the ruling party of not fulfilling its electoral pledges to the state’s residents. Additionally, Antony’s son, Anil K Antony, who recently joined the BJP, also campaigned in the constituency for the BJP candidate, G Lijin Lal.

In his speeches, Chief Minister Vijayan emphasized the proactive measures taken by the state government to reconstruct Kerala after enduring the worst floods of the century. He noted that the government had launched numerous development projects, including the establishment of three new science parks and a digital park. He underscored that Kerala was progressing toward a new direction, yet the opposition Congress seemed unwilling to acknowledge these advancements and was attempting to obstruct the state’s progress. Vijayan also highlighted Kerala’s status as having the lowest poverty rate in the country and the government’s commitment to uplifting the remaining 0.7 percent of the population from extreme poverty.
