“Good Samaritan Award”: Kozhikode Police Encourages Life-Saving Acts for Accident Victims with Cash Rewards

The Kozhikode City Police, in collaboration with the Lions Club, has introduced a pioneering initiative called the ‘Good Samaritan Award.’ This project aims to incentivize individuals who come to the aid of road accident victims, addressing the reluctance of people to assist due to fears of legal complications. Under this program, individuals who transport accident victims to the hospital can send a message with details, including a photo and a description of the incident, to the designated WhatsApp number (8590965259). Upon verification, the Good Samaritans will receive a reward of Rs 500 directly to their bank accounts.

City Police Commissioner Rajpal Meena highlighted the critical need for timely medical attention for accident victims, as delays often lead to fatalities or life-altering consequences. The project, initially implemented in Kozhikode city, is set to expand to other regions in the future. To prevent misuse of the initiative, the police will gather authentic information from hospitals through digital systems. This pioneering approach, the first of its kind in the state, is expected to not only save lives but also foster a culture of immediate assistance without legal concerns.
