Kerala Plans Beypore to Dubai Ferry Service: Tenders to be Invited in January

Kerala is set to initiate a ferry service from Beypore to Dubai, with approval from the central government. The service, passing through Kochi, aims to cater to the significant expatriate population, particularly from Malabar. Maritime Board Chairman NS Pillai announced that tenders for the project will be invited in early January, welcoming participation from private entrepreneurs and companies with central government involvement.

Recognizing the persistent demand for alternative transportation due to frequent flight ticket price hikes affecting expatriates, the initiative is expected to benefit both expatriates and tourists. The Maritime Board chairman expressed optimism about a swift commencement of the service if supported by the Shipping Corporation of India. Notably, Sharjah Indian Association President Adv YA Rahim and Malabar Development Council President CE Chakunni have lobbied with the Chief Minister and Union Ministers for the establishment of this ferry service.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonawal recently endorsed the project in Parliament following a discussion raised by Hibi Eden MP. The proposed ferry, capable of accommodating 1000 to 2000 passengers, aims to reduce ticket prices to Rs. 10,000, offering a five-day journey for up to 2000 people per trip.
