WhatsApp Introduces Email Address Linking: A Guide on How It Functions

WhatsApp is introducing a new update for iOS users, enabling them to link their email addresses to their WhatsApp accounts. While the app traditionally uses the phone number for login, adding an email address provides an additional access point. It’s particularly beneficial when users can’t receive an SMS code for WhatsApp login. In the latest WhatsApp for iOS 2.23.24.70 update, users are prompted to add their email addresses, with a message assuring users that the email isn’t visible to others. Here’s how the feature works:

Update WhatsApp: Ensure you have the latest version of WhatsApp installed from the App Store on your iPhone.

Access Settings: After updating, go to the WhatsApp settings menu and tap on “Account.”

Add Email Address: Within the Account section, select “Email address” to add your email.

Verification Code: Enter the email address and proceed to enter the verification code sent for confirmation.

This feature, previously seen in beta versions for Android and iOS, provides an alternative method for receiving verification codes via email. It proves useful in scenarios where SMS codes might not be accessible due to network issues or technical problems. However, it’s important to note that WhatsApp continues to use the phone number as the primary identifier, keeping the email address private for authentication codes. While currently available to beta testers on Android, the broader rollout for Android users is expected in the coming days.

Stay updated with WhatsApp’s latest features by ensuring your app is running the newest version, and enjoy the added convenience of linking your email address for enhanced account access.
