Cheetah Reintroduction: Agni and Vayu Released in Kuno National Park Tourist Zone

Agni and Vayu, two male cheetahs, have recently been released into the tourist zone of Kuno National Park (KNP) in the Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh. The release took place in the Parond forest range, specifically within the Ahera tourism zone of the national park. This move is part of the Cheetah Reintroduction Project, a conservation effort aimed at reintroducing cheetahs into the wild. The release of these majestic animals provides an exciting opportunity for tourists to witness cheetahs in their natural habitat and contributes to the overall biodiversity of Kuno National Park.

The cheetahs had been kept in bomas (enclosures) within Kuno National Park since August, where a team of veterinarians closely monitored their health. Unfortunately, six adult cheetahs have died for various reasons since March, including a cub, highlighting the challenges and complexities involved in such reintroduction efforts. Despite setbacks, the release of Agni and Vayu marks a significant step in the ongoing conservation initiative to reestablish a cheetah population in Kuno National Park.
