Crackdown on Unauthorised Communication: Batteries Banned Inside Prison Cells

In an effort to combat the unauthorized use of mobile phones within prison walls, officials have implemented a strict ban on supplying batteries to inmates’ cells. Previously, batteries were provided to prisoners for use in FM Radios, TV remotes, and clocks, a service managed through jail canteens. Unfortunately, certain inmates abused this privilege by using the batteries to charge hidden mobile phones, prompting authorities to halt the battery supply to prevent this illegal activity.

Stringent instructions have been issued to officials to ensure that prisoners do not receive batteries through canteens, visitors, or couriers. This move comes in response to alarming reports of rampant mobile phone usage by inmates, with instances of individuals sneaking phones into prisons upon returning from parole or during visits. The ban aims to enhance prison security and curb the misuse of mobile phones, addressing concerns raised by high-profile cases involving prisoners using phones inside cells.
