Kerala Braces for Intensifying Heatwave; Yellow Alert Issued in 10 Districts

The state of Kerala is set to experience an escalation in temperatures today, prompting the Central Meteorological Department to issue a warning. Anticipating a rise of two to four degrees Celsius, ten districts have been placed under a yellow alert. The affected districts include Palakkad, Kollam, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod.

Specific temperature forecasts indicate Palakkad reaching a scorching 39°C, while Kollam is expected to hit 38°C. Kottayam and Pathanamthitta districts are projected to experience temperatures of 37°C, with Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts not far behind at 36°C. The State Disaster Management Authority has issued a cautionary advisory, urging the public to be vigilant due to the potential health hazards associated with high temperatures, including sunstroke, sunburn, and dehydration.

In response to the heatwave, the Central Meteorological Department has also raised concerns about the possibility of isolated summer rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in South Kerala and Central Kerala during the afternoon. As the state prepares for the impact of this intensifying heatwave, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to mitigate the risks posed by the soaring temperatures and potential weather disturbances.
