Extended Ration Shop Hours for Onam Kit Distribution; Completion Expected by Monday

Minister G R Anil has confirmed the delivery of free Onam kits to all state ration shops by Sunday afternoon. He assured that there would be no obstacles in providing the Onam kits to eligible recipients during this festive season.

The distribution of 2,10,000 kits has taken place so far. The minister clarified that this number does not include the kits already distributed to welfare institutions and tribal villages. However, the opposition has expressed concerns over the fair distribution of Onam kits throughout the state. With just a day left until Uthradam, the auspicious beginning of Onam, many individuals in the state have reportedly not yet received their Onam kits.

In response to the opposition’s allegations, the Minister has announced that ration shops will remain open from 8 am to 8 pm on Monday, specifically to ensure the distribution of kits to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) yellow card holders. The distribution of Onam kits to government welfare organizations has already been completed in several districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Kozhikode, by Sunday afternoon.

The remaining districts are set to receive their allocation of Onam kits by Sunday night. Additionally, the distribution of kits has taken place across 136 tribal villages in Kerala. The Minister has assured the media that the distribution process will be finalized by Monday, and individuals holding ration cards can collect their kits from their respective shops by that time.
