Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to Conduct Detailed Study for Thiruvananthapuram Metro Rail Project

In a significant development, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is planning to conduct a thorough study for the Thiruvananthapuram metro rail project. The study will cover various aspects, including a topographical survey, utility survey, traffic forecast, road network system, metro mode selection, civil engineering, inter-modal transport integration, technical sector, environmental impact, and an economic survey. Based on the findings, DMRC will prepare and submit the Detailed Project Report (DPR). Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is responsible for executing the metro project in the state capital, and they have sought DMRC’s expertise to assist in preparing the DPR.

The earlier study conducted by DMRC in 2018 estimated the cost of the Thiruvananthapuram Metro project at Rs 4,219 crore. The study recommended a route from Pallipuram to Kaimanam in the first phase and from Kaimanam to Neyyattinkara in the second phase. The plan is to implement a medium-model rail system similar to Kochi Metro in Thiruvananthapuram, but the final decision will be made after DMRC submits its comprehensive study report.
