WhatsApp Tests Ability to Share Status Updates from Web Interface and Companion Devices

WhatsApp is currently in the testing phase for a new feature that enables users to share status updates directly from the web interface and companion devices. This development is part of Meta-owned WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and feature availability across different platforms.

For users signed up for beta versions of WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp for Android, the ability to share status updates from the web interface is now being tested. After updating to WhatsApp Web beta version 2.2353.59, users can post updates from the Status section on the web client. They can click on the green icon next to their profile photo, navigate to My Status, and choose either Photos & Videos or Text to upload a status update.

In addition to the web interface, WhatsApp is extending the capability to share status updates to companion devices. Users who have updated to WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.1.4 can add a status update directly from their companion device. Companion mode for WhatsApp allows users to access their chats on up to four other devices, even when the primary smartphone is not online.

While companion devices initially focused on allowing users to chat with their contacts, WhatsApp is gradually expanding the features available on these devices. The recent addition of status update support on companion devices enhances the functionality available beyond the primary smartphone.

Although these features are currently being tested on Android devices, WhatsApp is expected to roll out similar capabilities to iOS companion devices in the future. WhatsApp continues to expand its beta testing programs, with recent testing of WhatsApp for iPad among other features.

As WhatsApp explores new features and capabilities, users can expect enhanced flexibility and accessibility, especially for those who frequently use companion devices alongside their primary smartphones. The gradual rollout of these features is part of WhatsApp’s commitment to refining its platform based on user feedback and evolving communication needs.
