WhatsApp Web’s Revamped Interface: Dark Mode and Sidebar Arriving for Beta Testers

WhatsApp has been reportedly working on a new interface for its Web client, featuring a sidebar and a dark mode, since last year. Recent reports suggest that this revamped design has begun rolling out to some users, indicating a potential public release in the near future. Notably, WhatsApp has also introduced Meta AI to selected users in India last week.

According to information from the WhatsApp update tracker WABetaInfo, the new interface is being gradually released to users who are part of the Web client’s beta program. However, not all beta testers have received the update, suggesting that WhatsApp is currently conducting a limited test. While the new interface doesn’t introduce new features, it reorganizes various sections of the platform into a well-designed sidebar area.

The updated WhatsApp Web interface also includes a dark mode option, offering enhanced readability for users who prefer a black-background-white-text format. The sidebar displays icons for Chats, Communities, Status Updates, Channels, Archived Chats, Starred Messages, and Broadcasted messages, providing improved navigation compared to the current version.

With the rollout to beta testers underway, it’s anticipated that the new interface could be available to all users within a few weeks. Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, has been actively working on several new features for the platform. Recently, a Meta AI chatbot was spotted on WhatsApp in India, expanding its reach to Instagram and Messenger as well.

Additionally, previous reports indicated that WhatsApp was developing a link privacy feature, allowing users to disable link previews to enhance privacy during chats. This feature aims to prevent the exposure of sensitive information through thumbnail previews and short descriptions of shared links.
