WhatsApp has unveiled a new update allowing users to designate certain contacts as favourites, making them easily accessible in both chats and calls, the company announced recently. This update aims to streamline communication by prioritizing frequently contacted individuals at the top of the screen in WhatsApp’s Chats and Calls sections. Users can also filter these favourites directly within the app.
The feature enables users to:
Organize chats by adding frequently contacted individuals under the favourites filter in the Chats tab.
Manage favourite contacts in the Calls tab by selecting the ‘Add favourites’ option and choosing desired contacts.
Access and reorder favourites through Settings > Favorites > Add to Favorites.
WhatsApp has confirmed the rollout of this feature starting immediately, with availability expected for users over the coming weeks. The deployment may be phased, so some users might experience delays in receiving the update.
Additionally, WhatsApp is reportedly testing several other features in development, such as live chat translation, voice message transcription, and a dedicated video note mode within the camera user interface (UI). These features are currently being evaluated and may initially be accessible to beta testers through the Google Play Beta program.
