Today, five other countries are celebrating their independence

On the same day that India celebrates its seventy-fourth Independence Day on August 15, five other countries around the world will witness a similar event. Here are the other countries that gained independence from their colonists on August 15.

Bahrain
Bahrain gained independence from British rule on August 15, 1971. The country did, in fact, declare independence following a survey of the people conducted by the United Nations. Following this declaration, Bahrain and the United Kingdom signed a friendship treaty. Despite the fact that Bahrain gained independence on August 14, the country celebrates its Independence Day on August 15.

Bahrain is now a popular destination for tourists, with the country’s capital, Manama, serving as the main draw. Among the sights to see are the Manama Souk, Muharraq Island, where visitors can go pearl diving, the Bahrain National Museum, and the Bahrain Fort.

North and South Korea
Both North and South Korea observe August 15 as National Liberation Day. In fact, it is the only common event observed by the rival countries.
The day commemorates the defeat of Japanese forces that occupied a united Korea in 1945 by a joint army of the United States and the Soviet Union. Three years later, Korea was divided into two parts: North Korea and South Korea.
South Korea is now a vibrant and diverse nation where tradition and technology coexist.

Lichtenstein
Lichtenstein, a European country without an airport or armed forces, is sandwiched between Austria and Switzerland. It is one of the world’s smallest countries and is thought to be the last remnant of the ancient Roman empire. Liechtenstein celebrates Independence Day on August 15th because it was on this day in 1866 that the country gained independence from German rule.

Liechtenstein, which is surrounded by the picturesque Alps mountains, is also the smallest country where German is spoken. The country, which is also a hiker’s paradise, is home to some of Europe’s most picturesque villages. The Liechtenstein Tourism Board offers approximately 30 hiking trails that take visitors to the breathtaking heights of the Alps.

Republic of Congo
Congo Republic
On August 15, 1960, Congo gained complete independence from France, exactly 80 years after the French occupied the territory. The Republic of Congo’s Independence Day is now known as Congolese National Day.
