Actress Malavika Sreenath has recently addressed the resurgence of her old interview amid heightened media focus on casting couch practices in the Malayalam film industry, following the release of the Justice Hema Committee report. Known for her roles in films like ‘Madhuram’ and ‘Saturday Night,’ Malavika’s interview about a past casting couch ordeal has resurfaced on social media, leading to widespread speculation and misinformation.
In her response, Malavika clarified that the incident she described in the interview involved individuals who were not connected to the film industry and that the so-called audition was a fraudulent scheme aimed at financial exploitation. “Please stop spreading false information. The video clip currently circulating is just a fragment of an interview, and many people haven’t watched the entire interview or understood the real incident,” Malavika stated in a public note.
She explained that the experience she shared occurred 10 years ago, well before she began her career in cinema, and had nothing to do with the film industry. “My video has no connection with the current issues being discussed. I request everyone to stop sharing the clip for attention and to stop spreading fake news. I have no role in the ongoing issues,” she wrote on Instagram.
Malavika had previously detailed an encounter with a casting couch scenario involving a fraudulent casting call purportedly for a role in a film starring Manju Warrier. She alleged that those behind the audition misbehaved with her. However, she has stressed that this past experience is unrelated to the current controversies highlighted in the Hema Committee report.
Malavika’s response aims to clarify any misconceptions and emphasize that her experience should not be conflated with the broader issues of sexual exploitation and misconduct currently under scrutiny in the industry.
