Elon Musk has once again made headlines with the introduction of Tesla’s latest humanoid robot, Optimus Gen 2. Unveiled at the “We, Robot” event, Optimus is designed to perform a variety of everyday tasks and is rapidly evolving to become a more advanced assistant. With improved AI technology and enhanced physical capabilities, this robot could revolutionize how automation integrates into daily life.
Musk emphasized that the latest version of Optimus is far more capable than its predecessors, able to do “almost anything.” Its versatility covers tasks ranging from mowing lawns and walking dogs to more complex duties like folding laundry or babysitting. Optimus Gen 2 also features faster mobility, greater hand dexterity, and tactile sensors that allow it to manipulate objects with precision. In a recent demonstration, Musk showcased the robot folding a shirt with perfect accuracy, illustrating Tesla’s goal of making Optimus a reliable assistant for routine household chores.
With a projected price between $20,000 and $30,000, Musk envisions Optimus as a household companion, predicting its widespread use in homes around the world. He even humorously suggested that the robot could serve drinks during social gatherings, further highlighting its potential as a useful aide.
Tesla first introduced the Optimus concept during their AI Day event in 2021, with the intention of designing a robot that could take on repetitive or dangerous tasks. Since then, it has come a long way from its initial prototype, which could only perform basic actions. Optimus’ recent developments suggest that it could soon become an essential part of everyday life, bridging the gap between humans and advanced robotic technology.
In addition to Optimus, Musk shared updates on other Tesla innovations, such as the upcoming Cybercab, an autonomous vehicle expected to enter production by 2026.
