Security measures were heightened at Visakhapatnam Airport following a bomb threat directed at several IndiGo flights en route to Vizag, including flight 6E917 from Chennai. The alarm was raised after the station manager for IndiGo Airlines received a tweet from an account linked to a user identified as AdamLanza202, which specifically mentioned multiple flights. IndiGo flight 6E917, scheduled to depart from Chennai at 3:55 pm and land in Visakhapatnam at 5:10 pm, was one of the flights placed under scrutiny.
Responding to the warning, airport security authorities promptly moved the targeted flights to an isolation bay to prioritize the safety of passengers and crew. This swift action followed the detailed nature of the message, which referenced various IndiGo flights and heightened security concerns at Visakhapatnam Airport.
This incident closely followed a series of similar hoax threats affecting multiple airlines, including IndiGo, Air India, and Vistara. The threats, issued on social media by a user with the handle “I want to slit your throat” (@Mandaimassacre), included alarming claims that bombs were on board specific flights, posing a serious risk to passenger safety. Following thorough investigations, these threats were deemed hoaxes. Mumbai police confirmed the registration of a case against the unknown user, bringing the total number of bomb threat-related FIRs this month to 14, spanning the period from October 14 to 28. So far, one suspect—a 17-year-old student from Chhattisgarh—has been apprehended in connection with the threats, with investigations ongoing to address the remaining cases.
