
Nedumangad (Thiruvananthapuram): A routine police investigation turned violent on Sunday night in Mukkola, Nedumangad, near Thiruvananthapuram, when a gang attacked officers during a raid at a birthday party. The altercation left six police personnel, including Circle Inspector (CI) Rajesh and Sub-Inspectors (SIs) Austin and Santosh Kumar, injured.
The incident unfolded around 11:40 p.m. after neighbors alerted the authorities about disturbances at a house owned by Aneesh, a known history-sheeter. The party, reportedly organized for the birthday of Aneesh’s niece, took place in the absence of family members.
Upon arrival, the police team faced significant resistance when they attempted to detain the suspects. The attackers, armed and aggressive, injured the officers before the police managed to arrest eight individuals, including Aneesh. All the apprehended suspects have extensive criminal records and are implicated in multiple cases across the district.
The injured officers were rushed to Nedumangad District Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, a search is ongoing to apprehend the remaining culprits involved in the incident.
This violent clash highlights the increasing challenges faced by law enforcement in dealing with organized gangs, even during routine investigations.
