
New Delhi: The Winter Session of Parliament commenced on Monday, with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman poised to present several significant bills aimed at reforming India’s banking sector. Among the key proposals is the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, which seeks to amend the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, the Banking Regulation Act, and the State Bank of India Act. Additionally, amendments to the Banking Companies (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings) Acts of 1970 and 1980 will also be considered.
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is set to propose amendments to the Railway Act, 1989, while Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State for Skill Development, will update Parliament on the progress of the SANKALP Project, an initiative focused on enhancing skill development across the country.
Other important motions include nominations for committees on the welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes. Additionally, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will move for the election of members to the Council of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
Legislation surrounding aviation is also on the agenda, with a bill to regulate the design, manufacture, and operation of aircraft being tabled. Bills related to governance, such as elections to the Delhi Development Authority’s Advisory Council and the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS), will also be discussed.
The session, running until December 20, will commemorate “Constitution Day” on November 26, with no parliamentary proceedings on that day. This Winter Session is expected to address a wide array of pressing issues, showcasing a robust legislative agenda for national development.
