New Delhi: The Congress party has pledged to provide free electricity up to 400 units per month if it secures power in Delhi, according to a statement by its city unit chief, Devender Yadav. Highlighting this as a key promise, Yadav emphasized that the party would also introduce stringent oversight to prevent distribution companies (discoms) from burdening consumers with inflated electricity bills.
Currently, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi offers free electricity for consumption up to 200 units per month. Addressing supporters at the Delhi Nyay Yatra in the Kirari assembly constituency, Yadav underscored Congress’ track record of delivering on its election promises in states where it governs. He contrasted this with AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of failing to fulfill his ambitious electoral commitments.
Yadav criticized Kejriwal for not transforming Delhi into a world-class city as promised. He claimed that despite the assurances during the 2022 Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections to clear the massive garbage mounds in the capital, the situation remains dire, with waste still strewn across the city. The Congress leader blamed AAP’s governance failures for the deteriorating living conditions in Delhi, reaffirming Congress’ commitment to transparent and efficient administration if elected.
