The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) have introduced new hand baggage rules to streamline airport processes and enhance security checks. With the rise in passenger traffic, these changes aim to simplify procedures and reduce congestion at security checkpoints.
According to the updated guidelines, passengers are now allowed to carry only one piece of hand baggage per flight, whether traveling domestically or internationally. For economy and premium economy class passengers, the permissible weight limit for hand luggage is set at 7 kg, while first and business class passengers can carry up to 10 kg. The new rules also specify size restrictions for hand baggage, with the maximum dimensions being 55 cm in height, 40 cm in length, and 20 cm in width.
However, for tickets booked before May 2, 2024, passengers are exempt from the new weight limits and can carry additional baggage based on their class of travel. For example, economy passengers can carry up to 8 kg, while first-class travelers can carry up to 12 kg. The updated rules will apply strictly to all bookings made after May 2, 2024. These changes are designed to expedite security processes, allowing quicker passenger screening and reducing delays at airports. Travelers are advised to pack smartly to ensure their hand baggage meets the new size and weight guidelines, ensuring a smoother and more efficient travel experience.
