Dhoni still put on an entertaining show, scoring 30 off 16 balls, including three boundaries and two massive sixes. His brief onslaught in the final over against Krunal Pandya gave the crowd something to cheer about. Though Pandya caught him off guard with a surprise bouncer, Dhoni responded in style, smashing two consecutive sixes and a four. However, his late fireworks could not change the inevitable, as CSK finished their innings at 146/8 in 20 overs, falling well short of the target.
RCB’s bowlers executed their plans brilliantly, ensuring CSK never got the momentum needed to chase down the target. Josh Hazlewood (3/21) struck early blows, while Yash Dayal (2/18) and Suyash Sharma kept the pressure on in the middle overs. Earlier in the match, Rajat Patidar’s 51 and Tim David’s explosive 22 off 8 balls helped RCB post a challenging total of 196/7.
For CSK, the loss will raise concerns beyond just their defeat. The decision to hold back Dhoni, one of their most experienced finishers, until the game was virtually out of reach remains a hot topic of debate.
