Kerala Police Issues Parking Guidelines: Avoid These No-Parking Zones

New advisory highlights areas where vehicle parking is strictly prohibited to reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety.

In an effort to combat increasing traffic congestion and promote safer road usage, the Kerala Police has issued a comprehensive advisory through its social media channels, listing the locations where parking is strictly prohibited. The move aims to address the widespread issue of unauthorised and irresponsible parking, which continues to disrupt smooth traffic flow across the state.

The advisory underscores that unauthorised parking is one of the major reasons for traffic blocks and general inconvenience to road users. It also points out that a large number of drivers remain unaware of standard parking rules or choose to ignore them.

The list of prohibited parking zones includes:

Designated ‘No Parking’ areas.

Main roads or high-speed traffic zones.

Footpaths, cycle tracks, or near zebra crossings.

Close to bus stops, schools, hospitals, or building entrances.

In front of traffic signs where visibility may be obstructed.

Inside tunnels, on bus lanes, or near sharp curves and hills.

Particularly, close to bridges, where such parking can create serious traffic hazards.

Spaces meant for differently abled individuals’ vehicles.

On narrow roads or in a manner that blocks visibility.

In a way that blocks other vehicles or entrances/exits of official parking zones.

On yellow lines or boxes, or alongside other parked vehicles (double parking).

On private property without permission.

Overstaying in time-restricted parking zones.

In slots reserved for specific vehicle types when the parked vehicle does not qualify.

The Kerala Police urged citizens to follow these parking norms diligently. They stressed that mindful parking not only ensures smoother traffic flow but also promotes road safety and public convenience.
