Popular streaming platform JioHotstar faced a brief outage on Wednesday, leaving users unable to access shows, movies, or even basic features like the search bar and watch history. Several users took to the social media platform X to express their frustration over the sudden disruption.
The glitch coincided with a spike in complaints against Jio’s mobile and broadband network earlier in the day. According to the outage tracking website DownDetector, around 400 users reported problems with Jio services around 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Of these, 44% complained about mobile network unavailability, 32% reported no signal, and 26% faced issues with Jio Fibre.
Complaints flooded social media with users reporting login failures, repeated buffering, missing search functionality, and error messages preventing normal app usage. Key features such as the search bar, account access, and “Continue Watching” options were unavailable for several hours, causing frustration among subscribers during a peak viewing period marked by festive releases and live cricket streams.
“Due to some unforeseen technical issue, some of our users may have issues while streaming content or accessing the platform. Appreciate your patience while we work to resolve the issue. We regret the inconvenience caused,” said JioHotstar in response to users who took to social media to talk about the outage. Service has since been restored, with both JioHotstar and the Jio network now functioning normally.
