Red alert in three Kerala districts: Holiday declared for educational institutions on Wednesday

The holiday applies to all educational institutions, including professional colleges, anganwadis, nurseries, central schools, CBSE and ICSE schools and madrasas in these districts.

Following the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) issuance of a red alert, District Collectors of Idukki, Malappuram and Palakkad have declared a holiday for educational institutions in these districts on Wednesday. Schools and colleges in districts will remain closed on October 22.

The holiday applies to all educational institutions, including professional colleges, anganwadis, nurseries, central schools, CBSE and ICSE schools and madrasas in these districts. The IMD has issued a red alert due to the likelihood of heavy rainfall in these regions. Meanwhile, the districts of Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Wayanad are under an orange alert for Wednesday.

Malappuram: With the IMD issuing a red alert for potential heavy rainfall, the District Collector has announced a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, on Wednesday(October 22) as a precautionary measure. The holiday also applies to anganwadis, madrasas and tuition centres.

Palakkad: Due to the red alert, the District Collector has declared a holiday on Wednesday (October 22) for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, in Palakkad. However, residential schools, colleges and Navodaya Vidyalayas are exempted from the holiday.

Idukki: The holiday was initially declared in the Idukki district, being the first among the three to announce closure in response to the severe weather alert.
