The flood situation in Assam remains dire as six more individuals have died, raising the total death toll to 70 from this year’s floods, landslides, and storms, as reported by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). The recent casualties include two people from Charaideo and one each from Goalpara, Morigaon, Sonitpur, and Tinsukia districts. The floods have impacted 23,96,648 people across 29 districts, with 68,768.5 hectares of cropland submerged.
Dhubri is among the worst-affected areas, with 7,97,918 people affected, followed by Cachar with 1,75,231 people, and Darrang with 1,63,218 residents. In response, 53,429 individuals have taken shelter in 577 relief camps set up across the state.
The Brahmaputra River is flowing above danger levels at Nimatighat, Tezpur, Goalpara, and Dhubri, along with its tributaries Burhi Dihing at Chenimari, Dikhou at Sivasagar, Disang at Nanglamuraghat, Dhansiri at Numaligarh, Jia Bharali at NT Road crossing, and Kopili at Dharamtul and Sankosh in Golakganj.
The Barak River is also above the danger mark at AP Ghat, BP Ghat, and Kushiyara at Karimganj town. A total of 15,49,161 animals have been affected by the floods, and the second wave has claimed the lives of 114 wild animals. Public infrastructure damage includes 126 roads and two bridges.
