Hockey India has announced the retirement of the number 16 jersey in honor of PR Sreejesh, the esteemed goalkeeper and former captain of the Indian hockey team. Sreejesh, who retired after the Paris Olympics, wore the number 16 jersey throughout his illustrious 18-year career. This gesture acknowledges his significant contributions, including his pivotal role in securing two Olympic bronze medals for India.
The retirement ceremony took place in Delhi, with several former and current players from the Indian men’s hockey team, along with Sreejesh’s family, in attendance. The event, titled “PR Sreejesh – The God of Indian Hockey,” saw teammates donning the iconic number 16 jersey in tribute to Sreejesh’s legendary career.
