In a tragic incident from Thrissur district, an elderly couple was found dead at their residence in Vadanappally, raising initial concerns before police confirmed there were no signs of foul play. The deceased have been identified as 85-year-old Prabhakaran and his wife Kunjipennu, residents of the Koduvathparambil house near Naduvilkara Bodhananda Vilasam School, west of Vadanappally.
The couple had been living alone and were being looked after by palliative care volunteers. It was these volunteers who made the grim discovery when they visited the home as part of their routine care. Kunjipennu was found deceased in the bedroom, while Prabhakaran’s body was located in the courtyard, lying unresponsive.
The police were immediately notified, and an investigation was launched. According to initial assessments by law enforcement, the deaths appear to be due to natural causes related to old age. The authorities have found no evidence to suggest any foul play or suspicious activity surrounding the incident. However, a definitive conclusion about the cause of death will be made only after the completion of post-mortem examinations.
The deaths have left the local community in shock, especially since the couple was known to be living a quiet life, relying on the support of healthcare volunteers. Their passing highlights the vulnerability of elderly individuals living alone and the critical role of community and care services in ensuring their well-being.
