Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to India on Friday after wrapping up a significant diplomatic tour that included visits to France and the United States. The visit focused on strengthening strategic partnerships, advancing technology cooperation, and bolstering economic ties between India and these global powers.
During his visit to the United States, PM Modi met with President Donald Trump for the first time since Trump’s re-election. The leaders held extensive discussions at the White House, lasting over four hours, covering critical issues such as defence collaboration, economic engagement, trade, security, energy, and emerging technologies. Expressing optimism about the future of Indo-US relations, PM Modi highlighted the trust and enthusiasm shared by both nations. President Trump, in turn, reaffirmed the strong bilateral ties, emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration.
Apart from diplomatic discussions, PM Modi also met with key figures, including Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. The interactions aimed at exploring new technological and business opportunities between India and the US, particularly in AI, renewable energy, and trade.
Before his US visit, PM Modi spent three days in France, where he co-chaired the AI Action Summit alongside French President Emmanuel Macron. The summit saw the participation of global tech leaders, policymakers, and industry experts, emphasizing the role of AI in economic growth and global development. The two leaders also visited the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor project in Marseille, where India is a partner country.
PM Modi paid homage to Indian soldiers who lost their lives during World War I and II at the Mazargues War Cemetery. He and President Macron also toured the headquarters of CMA-CGM, a global shipping and logistics giant, to strengthen Indo-French economic collaboration. In a significant diplomatic gesture, the two leaders jointly inaugurated the Indian Consulate in Marseille, further deepening cultural and economic exchanges between the two nations.
The visit underscored India’s growing global influence and reinforced its strategic partnerships with both the United States and France. PM Modi’s engagements during the trip highlighted India’s commitment to innovation, trade, security, and international cooperation, setting the stage for stronger diplomatic and economic ties in the coming years.
