Gold prices have surged significantly across the state, causing concerns among those planning weddings this season. The price of a sovereign has risen by Rs 840, bringing the cost of 22-carat gold to Rs 53,360 per pav. The current rate per gram now stands at Rs 6,670, while 24-carat gold is priced at Rs 7,163 per gram, and 18-carat gold at Rs 5,373 per gram. This sharp rise comes at a time when many are already grappling with inflated wedding budgets, intensifying the financial strain on those preparing for upcoming nuptials.
Nationally, gold prices have also seen a steep increase, with the cost of 10 grams of gold reaching Rs 70,000. In major cities like Delhi, 22-carat gold is priced at Rs 65,810 per 10 grams, Rs 65,660 in Mumbai, Rs 65,710 in Ahmedabad, and Rs 65,660 in Chennai. The surge in gold prices follows the recent reduction in import duties announced in the budget. Additionally, fears of a recession in the U.S. and ongoing political tensions, particularly involving Israel and Iran, have driven up gold’s appeal as a safe-haven investment. If these geopolitical conflicts remain unresolved, experts predict that gold prices could continue to climb even higher.
