The Kerala government has decided to forgo the official Onam celebrations this year due to the recent disaster in Wayanad. Despite this, Supplyco will move forward with Onam fairs as planned, with preparations underway to launch these fairs at both district and taluk levels starting in the first week of September. These fairs are intended to support the community during the festival season, offering essential items at controlled prices.
This year, the Onam kit will be distributed exclusively to yellow card holders, similar to the previous year. Additionally, the kits will be made available to those in need, ensuring broader support. To stabilize market prices during this period, the Kerala Finance Department has sanctioned Rs 225 crore to Supplyco. Initially, the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies had requested Rs 400 crore to further strengthen these efforts.
