Thiruvananthapuram: Malayalee passengers have received a New Year surprise with the Railway Board’s decision to increase the number of coaches on the Thiruvananthapuram-Kasaragod Vande Bharat train. The train, known for its exceptional popularity and an occupancy rate of up to 183%, will now operate with 20 coaches instead of the current 16. The move aims to alleviate the ongoing struggle of securing tickets for this high-demand route.
Officials are optimistic that the addition of four coaches will address passenger woes and provide a more comfortable travel experience. However, the Railway Board did not approve similar requests to expand the coach capacity of the Thiruvananthapuram-Mangalore Vande Bharat service via Alappuzha.
Additionally, appeals for new Vande Bharat services between Ernakulam and Bengaluru, as well as Thiruvananthapuram and Coimbatore, were also left unconsidered. This decision has disappointed passengers and stakeholders who were looking forward to improved connectivity and services on these routes.
The increased capacity on the TVM-Kasaragod Vande Bharat is a step forward in addressing Kerala’s growing travel demands.
