Kerala Faces Continued Heavy Rain; Orange Alert Issued for Two Districts

Kerala is expected to experience heavy rain, gusty winds, and lightning until August 20 due to a cyclonic circulation over the northeast Arabian Sea and north Kerala coast, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The state will see extremely heavy rainfall until Saturday and heavy rainfall through Monday. In response to the severe weather forecast, an orange alert has been issued for Idukki and Pathanamthitta districts on August 16, while all other districts are under a yellow alert. The alert levels will change in the coming days, with specific districts facing varying levels of caution.

The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has advised residents to stay alert to prevent accidents during lightning and strong winds. Public safety measures include avoiding shelter under trees and electric poles during rain and reporting any damaged power lines to the relevant authorities. The KSDMA also advises those involved in early morning activities and construction work to exercise extreme caution or halt work during adverse weather conditions.
