Alappuzha, renowned for its tranquil backwaters, houseboats, and traditional snake boat races, is now expanding its tourism offerings beyond leisure travel. The picturesque coastal town is embracing adventure tourism, providing adrenaline-pumping experiences for thrill-seekers. The first phase of these activities will be launched at Alappuzha Beach, where two-speed boats have already been stationed, offering visitors an exciting ride over the sea waves. Additionally, plans are in place to introduce smaller boats, beach rafts, sand scooters, and all-terrain beach cars to enhance the adventure experience in the coming days.
The speed boats have already undergone successful test runs, and the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society is set to inspect them along with other adventure equipment and facilities on February 17. Upon receiving approval, the adventure rides will be officially open to the public, providing a new dimension to Alappuzha’s tourism sector.
Apart from speed boats, water bikes and luxury boats will soon be operational at the Kainakary Vattakayal terminal, further boosting water-based adventure tourism. Authorities believe that these attractions will significantly increase the number of visitors to Alappuzha. Meanwhile, the luxurious Pondoor boat, already stationed in Vattakayal, will enhance the backwater tourism experience. The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) had previously introduced paragliding at Alappuzha Beach, which was a successful initiative generating both revenue and interest from tourists. However, the much-anticipated floating bridge project, which was meant to let tourists walk over the sea, was shelved despite initial approvals due to controversies surrounding its feasibility.
With these new adventure activities, Alappuzha is set to transform into a prime destination for both thrill-seekers and nature lovers, adding another exciting chapter to Kerala’s diverse tourism landscape.
