Tucked away within the sprawling Harrison Malayalam Estate in the Varandarappilly Panchayat, the cricket field was originally designated as a playground for estate workers’ children to play football. However, three years ago, local cricket enthusiasts from the Janata Cricket team began using it for matches, and the ground has since become a local favorite. With dense trees offering natural shade, players enjoy a cool and refreshing atmosphere even on hot days.
But this serene setting comes with a wild twist — the ground is part of the Palappally Forest Range under the Chalakkudy Forest Division. Elephant sightings are common here. Jalal MB, a local representative and estate supervisor, recalls a dramatic moment when a cricket tournament was interrupted by a herd of 35 elephants, prompting a swift evacuation. Thankfully, no incidents have been reported on the pitch itself.
There’s no formal booking system; teams can simply arrive and play. If needed, a local opponent can be arranged. After crossing the old Pillathode Bridge, a road leads directly to the ground — just 25 meters ahead.
