Kerala-based music director Ramesh Narayan has issued an apology following a viral video that sparked controversy regarding his interaction with actor Asif Ali at a recent event. In the video, Narayan appeared to decline an award from Asif Ali, prompting widespread speculation and criticism on social media.
Speaking to Mathrubhumi News, Narayan clarified that the incident was a misunderstanding. He expressed regret over the confusion, stating, “I sincerely apologize for what happened yesterday because I did accept the award from Asif Ali with a lot of love. It’s just that I wanted the director of the film, Jayarajan, to be present there too and was searching for him, so I could not give my attention to Asif. By the time Jayarajan came, Asif had gone away.”
Narayan emphasized that the visuals were misinterpreted, asserting that he has been attempting to reach out to Asif Ali to resolve the misunderstanding. However, as of now, Asif Ali has not responded to Narayan’s attempts at reconciliation.
The controversy arose during the trailer launch of the anthology movie ‘Manorathangal’, based on the works of literary figure M.T. Vasudevan Nair. Asif Ali was tasked with presenting a memento to Narayan, but due to logistical issues and miscommunication, Narayan’s actions were misconstrued as a deliberate snub towards Asif Ali.
Social media quickly amplified the incident, with many criticizing Narayan for allegedly disrespecting Asif Ali. Fans and followers demanded an apology from Narayan for his behavior at the event.
Narayan clarified further, “The memento handing over was a very small event. I came back to my seat and sat beside Biju Menon. I did not get time to even hug or look at Asif. I was also confused if Asif was giving this to me or if I was supposed to give it.”
The situation underscores the challenges of public appearances and the scrutiny faced by celebrities and public figures in Kerala’s entertainment industry.
