As Deadpool & Wolverine continues to set records at the global box office, Ryan Reynolds, who reprises his iconic role as the Merc with a Mouth, has publicly thanked fans and the entire team behind the film. The blockbuster’s impressive performance has captivated audiences and critics alike, and Reynolds took to Instagram to share his appreciation.
In his post, Ryan reflected on the franchise’s incredible journey, writing: “Nearly a decade of getting to do this. 10 years ago, we would have gleefully taken these BONKERS second-weekend numbers as our opening weekend. The way #DeadpoolAndWolverine has captured the moment is hard to process (sic).”
With a staggering total of $392.5 million, Deadpool & Wolverine is on track to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever in the US and Canada, surpassing the original Deadpool which earned $363 million domestically. Reynolds expressed a sense of disbelief and joy, saying, “Feels a bit like it’s happening to someone else. Either way, making these movies has been more fun than anyone has a right to have. I can’t help but skip down memory lane a bit.”
He also acknowledged the pivotal roles of his long-time collaborators, including co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, directors Tim Miller and David Leitch, as well as 20th Century Fox, George Dewey, and Kevin Feige. “There are way too many people who’ve made pivotal creative contributions to list,” he noted.
Reynolds praised Shawn Levy and Hugh Jackman, referring to them as his “heart, creative, spiritual, and damn near literal brothers,” and described the film’s production as a “game of inches.” He concluded his heartfelt message by thanking everyone who supported the film, watched it multiple times, and embraced both new and familiar characters.
